I’m just finishing Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Lost Legacy again through the Legacy of Thieves collection (which you can see the review for here), and those are great video games. It’s hard not to be astonished by the trailer for the movie adaptation, starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg.

The movie is a Frankenstein overcut of various set pieces and concepts from the Uncharted games. It will be available in theatres in the UK on February 11 and in the US on February 18. I am going to see it. It will not affect my love of the games. The strange amalgamation of ideas with half-assed characterization (If someone put a gun to mine and asked me to guess Victor “Sully”) Sullivan’s character, it doesn’t feel as evocative of all the care put into it these games’ stories. The movie trailer doesn’t look very good. It’s just a bit annoying to see Nathan Drake’s dry humour interwoven with high-octane action scenes. These things may work better when viewed in context. However, the trailer feels like it is trying to show too much of it as a last-ditch effort for people to buy it. It lacks the tonal consistency that would make it a decent showcase.
