Japanese players are causing the brand new PlayStation streaming console, PlayStation Portal, to be sold out. A retailer has announced the same lottery system as the ones in place when PS5 first launched.

Genki JPN, A Japan-based Twitter user, claimed that the Portal was sold entirely within 12 hours of its release in Japan. The Portal has been warned yet again by Genki JPN that there are a lot of scalping issues within Japan that were reported on PS5s and is likely to be a factor here. Scalping is indeed an issue in any tech or popular culture. So it could happen everywhere.

In Genki’s tweet, they referred to 12 shops that all have been reported as sold out, including Amazon and Rakuten.

The popularity of the Portal shouldn’t come as an issue, given the country’s enthusiasm for gaming on handhelds. Even though the Portal isn’t considered a typical device, as it streams games straight from your PS5 instead of an actual media device or download game, Japan has steadily sold almost every device over the years.

It is easy to see the excitement of handheld gaming at Nintendo DS, which sold 59 million units in North America but managed to sell 33 million units in Japan and less than 25% of those within NA. It meant that, with the DS the console, only 26 percent of the Japanese gamers owned the dual-screen console.

The comprehensive coverage offered by Japan’s Internet and the numerous WiFi stations across cities, including the Portal, may bring more modern gaming available on the move. The long-term viability of these numbers is not particular, as Portal is a concrete case machine. Portal is a specific device, not like PSP or PS Vita. PS Vita or the PSP.

PlayStation Portal will be released on 15 November in the UK, priced at PS199.99. Some considered the console useless when it was announced, considering that so many different devices can play PlayStation Remote Play. Still, should you be a fan of gadgets and games that you can play while sitting in the bathroom, it could be your ideal handheld.
