Shield surfing is one of the many cool ways to get around in Zelda’s Tears of the Kingdom. Shield surfing is a situational way of transportation. You won’t always be able to do it, but it can help you get downhill quickly.

This technique requires a shield. Select the shield by holding left on the D-pad.

Hold ZL and press X for a jump, and A for shield surfing. Shield surfing will begin if you are on a rail or a slope. It’s likely you will need to jump as pressing A immediately may result in the animation not completing.

Tears of the Kingdom allows you to jump, perform tricks, and more. It is best done on rails.

When riding your shield, there are some things you should keep in mind. It will degrade and eventually break your shield, so it’s best to use something you won’t care if it breaks, such as a Pot Lid. Second, not all shields work well for riding. Bulky ones are especially bad when riding rails because you may fall.
