EA recently unveiled their next installment in the Battlefield franchise and it looks set to make a significant leap forward from what had come before it.

Battlefield remains one of the most beloved video game franchises today, yet recent years have proven difficult for its development team.

Battlefield 1942 marked the debut of this popular FPS on PC back in 2002 and, since then, the series has gone head to head against Activision’s Call of Duty as it competes to be considered one of the premier military FPS titles on offer today.

Some could make an argument that Battlefield 2042 represents its lowest point since Bad Company 2’s release back in 2008. On the contrary, some would posit it’s been underperforming ever since then and reached new heights with Bad Company 3, just released in 2010. However, these great games arguably mark their peak performance!

Battlefield 2042 faced an uphill struggle even before its launch, given the absence of a single-player campaign. Unfortunately, Battlefield 2042 launched with few modes and features in addition to numerous bugs, glitches, and server issues that made its success uncertain.

According to reports, Battlefield 2042 appears to be in better shape now; however, once players become disenchanted with it it can often become impossible to persuade them back again. Yet its faithful supporters remain hopeful for its next attempt at challenging Call of Duty’s dominance of gaming.

So what’s next for Battlefield 2042? Well, as reported by GameSpot (via GamesRadar), Electronic Arts CEO Andrew Wilson noted in their investor report that while taking responsibility for any shortcomings with 2042’s implementation – Wilson maintained their ability to bring it back in an entirely different form in future releases – without specifically detailing any plans on how exactly that might occur.

Wilson continued by noting the Battlefield series is “firmly established” within EA’s strategy and that their company strives to build games and experiences which draw in massive online communities across platforms, business models, geographies, and platforms alike. They anticipate Battlefield becoming an essential element in EA’s future strategy as we share more content over time and evolve together over time.

Electronic Arts will undoubtedly reveal all in the coming months and whether Battlefield takes an enormously different direction will continue competing head-on with Call of Duty.
