Are you excited about the HBO adaptation of The Last of Us? You should be. Even though we don’t have any footage or trailers, the adaptation is shaping up to be amazing, and the cast has just gotten more impressive.

Storm Reid, who has previously played Gia Bennett and Meg Murry in A Wandle in Time roles, will now play the role of Riley, Ellie’s friend, before she met Joel. Deathline first reported the announcement. It was confirmed over Twitter by Neil Druckmann, Naughty Dog director and co-president. @stormreid, welcome to the family!

The news was shared by Twitter users who were almost unanimously thrilled: “Another great actor for a great role!” I can’t wait for the Story to be integrated into the show. We won’t be waiting too long to see the first teaser trailer,” tweeted @AdamantiumLive. “Such a great casting, Neil[.] Good job! @palps44 wrote, “Can’t wait for the show.”

The HBO adaptation will follow the Story of the 2013 game in which Joel has to escort Ellie across America with the hopes of finding a cure to the Cordyceps virus. Joel is played by Pedro Pascal ( Mandalorian), and Ellie is played by Bella Ramsey ( Game of Thrones).

Riley is not mentioned in the first game. Instead, she plays a larger role in the Left Behind DLC. This is set before the events of The Last of Us. It is worth noting Reid has been called a “guest-star”, which could indicate that she will not be present for too long on the show. But we’ll have to wait and watch.

It is expected that the series will air sometime this year. The series is being produced jointly by Craig Mazin ( Chernobyl) and Neil Druckmann. Druckmann will also direct at most one episode. This is a great opportunity, considering he wrote the original game. We won’t have to wait too long for the trailer.
