Upcoming GoPro Hero8 Action Cams Shown Off in New Leaked images

Improved low-light performance and double the frame rates?

GoPro has become a name synonymous with actions cameras and every year that the company has launched a new assortment of its snappers in September. The GoPro Hero6 Black came late September 2017, although the GoPro Hero7 Black (and its more economical siblings, the Hero7 Silver and the Hero7 White) came along exactly a year after in 2018.

Therefore it should probably come as no surprise that rumors and leaks of GoPros’ following generation have begun to emerge from the woodwork.

Today, photography news site Photo Rumors has unearthed pictures of what seems to be a GoPro Hero8 snapper. A figure 8 over the side of a single does strongly signal this is the next generation of GoPro camera, while the leaked images aren’t especially sharp. The pictures indicate that GoPro has redesigned the Hero8 in order to accomodate optional accessories, such as a microphone, an external screen and an LED light.

We have heard traces of a redesign. Back in May, GoPro CEO Nick Woodman disclosed the company was looking to refresh the whole range across all of the price points. That could also imply we’ll see not only a GoPro Hero8 Black that is radically revised, but a Hero8 Silver and Hero8 White.

Expect more movie

The upcoming GoPro Hero8 scope will keep its predecessors’ 4K video shooting capabilities, but rumors indicate it will double the ante, using the Hero8 Black possibly capable of recording up 120fps in 4K (as opposed to this 60fps on the Hero7 Black), while Full HD 1080p videos may be shot at up to 480fps.

Additionally, it is anticipated that the gen action camera will home the brand GP2 processor under the hood. If that’s true, we should see a marked improvement in performance over the (admittedly already excellent) GoPro Hero7 Black. The chip could improve the camera’s low end functionality and also make the superb HyperSmooth picture stabilization feature much more silky.

While discussing the organization’s Q1 2019 earnings results in May, Woodward also said that it’s expecting to announce a camera. If that’s true, that’s very likely to be a successor to the GoPro Fusion which premiered in mid-2018.

We haven’t had any clue about what the Fusion 2 will be similar to, but the first is capable of shooting 5.2K resolution videos at up to 30fps. On the other hand, the current camera’over-capture’ feature — that converts footage into widescreen videos — is, meaning it best suited to professionals. Hopefully, GoPro will make a to give mainstream allure to it.

All this is still speculation, obviously, but if GoPro adheres to its regular routine, we’ll likely have an official statement to the eighth-generation action cameras (and perhaps even the Fusion two ) sometime next month.
