A Devistating Storm Hit Colorado And Sources Say It is The Biggest One They Have Ever Seen

Parts of Colorado got walloped by storms and some seriously gnarly hail this week.

All it took was golf ball-sized hail to total my Prius. That was barbarous, so I am having a hard time wrapping my head around hail that’s as long as a roll of toilet paper.

The National Weather Service offices in Boulder, Colorado, and Goodland, Kansas, near the Colorado border are looking into accounts of near-record-size hail from storms this week.

Colorado KKTV meteorologist Brian Bledsoe on Tuesday posted photographs of massive hailstones gathered near Bethune, Colorado, and said he’s working on verifying the size of the hail, which could wind up beating the nation’s record of 4.5-inch (11-centimeter) ice balls.

The current Colorado state hail size album was set and met many occasions, most recently in Adams County in 2011.

Large hail also fell near the small town of Otis in northeastern Colorado on Sunday. The weather service office in Boulder is investigating that hail. “We have a picture which has been just more than 4 inches in diameter,” the workplace tweeted on Monday.

The NWS Goodland office jumped into the fray having an abysmal picture shared on Tuesday of a hailstone that appears as large as a softball.

The Colorado Climate Center is helping out with listing verifications for its hailstones. The organization tweeted tips for preserving hail, Beginning with only collecting samples when it is safe to do so. Take photographs using a ruler or a item of a known size, prevent heating the rock with your palms and put it in the freezer in a plastic bag when possible.

We hope to Learn sometime this week if Some of those icy behemoths broke the Colorado state record. Just be Grateful they did not fall on your vehicle.
