The photorealistic game of horror makes players restart each time they cry
If there’s one that I’m likely to do while playing an incredibly scary game, it’s screaming. So the game which restarts each time you scream is the worst nightmare I can imagine. It’s the same for Don’t Scream, a coming “short horror experience” made using Unreal Engine 5.
DON’T SCREAM (spoiler, you probably likely) is the most recent realistic horror game made by independent creators Joure & Joe. “If you scream, you restart,” the official Steam summary says. “The test is to walk through the woods for an hour without screams. What’s the catch? It only counts down as you make a move. It’s a great way to scare your family and friends. Microphone required!”
A disclaimer stating that we accept no obligation for any clothing which “may become unusable should you play our game”, it’s sole aim is to make you laugh. Like the 2021’s After Your Eyes which made use of webcams on players to record their blinking patterns it appears that this is an entirely new method of playing games. Instead of having a webcam Don’t SCREAM requires gamers to connect their microphones, making sound to be heard to start the game. Therefore, I’d suggest not dipping into the crisps you love.
In a retro camcorder way, you’ll be instructed to go through this “mysterious Pineview Forest” within only 18 minutes. It sounds easy enough, right? But it’s all dependent on how calm you remain and how quickly you’re moving. DO NOT SCREAM promises “dozens of dynamic scares” every time you play it promises the best experience if you’re willing to try it again. “It’s the ideal game for you to get the pants off the people you love and your family. Our primary playtester (also my spouse) is at a hospital recovering from an illness,” the developers write.
If you believe you can be up to the challenge, DON’T SCREAM is now available for early access and has a final launch date scheduled by 2023.
