2023 has been an incredible year of video game releases with gems like The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Baldur’s Gate 3, and Alan Wake 2 being just some highlights. Unfortunately though, not everything has gone according to plan when it comes to an Xbox console exclusive title.

Since Microsoft acquired Bethesda Softworks, not only have franchises like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout become first-party properties under its green brand but talented development studios such as Arkane Lyon have flourished, producing some of the most engaging first-person titles like Dishonored series or critically acclaimed Deathloop titles.
Deathloop was reviewed as follows, in our words. Once familiar with Deathloop Island and all it entails, players quickly begin taking control of it to take down Eternalists creatively in various ways – it feels great and makes playing Arkane games truly rewarding and worthwhile.” Deathloop presents itself as an exciting, rewarding, and ambitious challenge that players won’t soon forget!

Arkane Lyon was hit with one of the worst Xbox exclusives of 2023; so was all of video gaming as a whole, thanks to “shockingly poor” vampiric co-op shooter Redfall.

Halo Infinite and Starfield were expected to lead this generation’s offerings in their respective genres, yet both titles have fallen short of fans’ hopes in that respect. Still, Forza Horizon 5 and Forza Motorsport Reboot offer great racing action while Halo Infinite itself now enjoys much higher player satisfaction levels compared to when first released.

Redfall earned an unsatisfactory score on Metacritic from critics (56), and only received an approval score from fans (3.5). As such, Xbox gamers on Reddit have been discussing all 2023 first-party exclusives, particularly Redfall.

Redfall was in EzekielSMELLiott’s opinion “a complete waste of my time, not even close to being average and Starfield was an overwhelming let down,” while Sensitive_Tear8627 reported playing Redfall only briefly before uninstalling it from Xbox Game Pass and uninstalling Redfall altogether.

Hi-Fi Rush was an unexpected delight, Forza Motorsport was impressive and Starfield my most played title of 2017. Redfall may have been disappointing but not to such an extreme degree,” wrote bucamel in her review on Redfall. Unfortunately after its initial launch a series of patches has been issued to attempt to address many issues; one Reddit user explained their difficulties: “I could barely get past the first couple hours; when the 60fps patch arrived it made it clear to me that Redfall wasn’t about having enough frames per second – rather it was about something else entirely.”

Redfall can now be found both on PC and Xbox Series X|S as well as Xbox Game Pass subscription service, however if you’re looking to spend your Xbox subscription service wisely I strongly suggest Sea of Stars, Forza Motorsport and DOOM Eternal as titles to add.
