BioWare is among the most adored RPG studios in the world of video gaming, creating iconic titles including Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and the critically underrated Jade Empire.

The studio also is responsible for the two original Baldur’s Gate series and the initial Mass Effect trilogy as well as The Dragon Age series. In recent times with the departure of team members, BioWare has fallen into the shadow of the company that was once its own self, releasing disastrous flops like Anthem. Additionally, despite having been a bad game to me (after several post-launch improvements) the 2017 version of Mass Effect: Andromeda was a complete loss of the spark that was generated in the Commander Shephard period.

BioWare is in the position to rise from its ashes thanks to the forthcoming Dragon Age: Dreadwolf and Mass Effect 5 coming in the works. The studio’s ability to return to the glory it once had is yet to be determined. But one studio that is claiming the most glory lately, specifically within the RPG genre includes Larian Studios with Baldur’s Gate 3.

Recently, Baldur’s Gate 3 was not just awarded an award that was well-deserved Game of the Year Award in The Game Awards 2023, and it also placed among the top 10 games of the top games from GAMINGbible that year.

Our analysis of Baldur’s Gate 3, our Ewan Moore stated: “I have gleefully joined the group that are the Baldur’s Gate 3’s evangelical, and I would not have otherwise. After a long time of groaning under the burden of such a variety of excellent games, it’s astonishing to me how higher the Baldur’s Gate 3looms over the field. I’m sure that we’ll never have anything like this again.”

It was 2021 when LucasGames revealed that the remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is in the works. But, rather than being developed by its founding studio BioWare the project is being managed by Aspyr which is a company well-known for remasters as well as mobile porting. However, just a year after it was announced there was speculation about there was some indication that the Knights of the Old Republic remake was in danger. The reports of the remake at risk did not stop during the time that followed and, according to reports, the remake was cancelled in spite of the fans still holding onto some hope.

At present, it’s not clear what it’s likely that the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake is ever going to see the light of day, with some believing the project was never going to be a big enough project for Aspyr to manage. If the remake was to get relaunched, or by releasing Knights of the Old Republic III and beyond, aside from the first BioWare makers, there is none studio is better placed to offer its Knights of the Old Republic series the esteem it merits more than Larian Studios, and a previous Dragon Age writer agrees.

In response to a tweet by PC Gamer, David Gaider who has not only been involved with the three initial Dragon Age titles but also the first Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic thinks the idea that Larian Studios would be a ideal fit for the adored Sci-Fi RPG.

“Can you picture Knights of the Old Republic III in Larian fashion? My dream of HK-47 getting resurrected, in mascot fashion with arms flailing and call out “meatbag!” I’m not a fan of that… however the whole concept has me thinking,” tweeted Gaider. I’m for it particularly for the coming back of the dark and beautiful HK-47.

Are we going to get to see Larian Studios develop a Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic game? In the moment, it’s likely to be an unfounded wish. But, if all of us are one with the Force It could be possible to happen in the future.
