Digital technology is a fantastic aspect. The ability to access the content you love at any time, without leaving the comforts of your home. If you think about that, it’s basically all I require.

But it does have several disadvantages. To begin, the majority of sellers sell digital content for the highest price, even though they are having lower overheads and prior to saying “wait for the sales” physical products are likely to also has sales. When it comes to “buy” digital media, it’s essentially leasing it to the owner of the content and relying on it to take the product away completely from existence. This means that you could also be paying for a subscription. In the past, Sony found itself in the hot seat following the fact that it removed thousands of digital media out of accounts without refunds.

Yes, I like the ease of using digital media as a disabled player I find it useful changing content during a chronically bad injury day without having to get off the couch. But, in the end I’ll never be a fan of physical media. Imagine a world without tangible comics and with no fresh printed pages that stink. What is the point of living?

If you purchase it at the same rate in the same way as the digital copy the physical copy. Unless you lose it, or stolen, you’ll forever “own” that content. That’s the reason I feel empathy to that Grand Theft Auto gamer that is the unlucky subject of the story today.

The person who is playing the game who is at issue has been identified as Twitter users The Duke, who has lost access to an apparently legally acquired digital copy of GTA V which he paid by Steam in 2015. The Duke asserts that about 219 hours of gameplay time has gone missing. “F*** DRM, f*** online only,” stated the obviously angry player.

In the follow-up tweet in a follow-up tweet Duke confirmed that the game’s files have been confirmed, and a fresh installation of Rockstar Games Social Club launcher is being performed, and a number of suggested fixes were tried, but the access for GTA V is not yet given. The Duke has reached out to Rockstar Games for help and I’m hoping that the issue can be resolved quickly as it’s not something that should be occurring.

Grand Theft Auto V is out now on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. For the next installment of the series GTA VI is scheduled to be released by 2025, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X S.
