Jim Carrey is reportedly set to appear in the sequel to The Grinch 2

Jim Carrey will apparently reprise his role in The Grinch in a live-action direct sequel to the live-action feature.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) is among the should-watch films at the time of Christmas and, while the animated version with Benedict Cumberbatch was pretty good Jim Carrey’s portrayal of the Dr Seuss persona will always be the top.

In a bizarre sequence of events, there’s a rumor that an update to the live-action film is in development according to reports. Jim Carrey will be returning to do the green make-up for the second time, a move has been compared to torture in the past.

In the spring of this year, a publication called Giant Freaking Robot reported Carrey will reprise his character, stating “Jim Carrey is returning to Universal Pictures for The Grinch 2, once again playing Dr. Seuss’s most famous and ill-tempered creation.”

Of course, there’s nothing verified through Universal Pictures as of yet and this should be treated with a pinch salt. If it’s real, then it’s a great thing especially considering that Carrey just announced that he’s retiring.

The question that is really important is: what will a sequel actually be like? The first story concerns The Grinch trying to steal Christmas only to realize what is the real meaning behind the season and make the things back in order. In the final story, his heart expanded and he’s a decent human being, so what is left following that?

A new character could be threatening Christmas, causing The Grinch as well as his gang to avoid another holiday tragedy, or perhaps he’ll get back to his normal methods after another horrific incident.

Whatever the case, it’s great to have Carrey come back to the one of his most adored performances, especially since each film he makes in the future could may be his last before he retires from film.
