Mortal Kombat 1 is trying to extract more cash from its fans, sabotaging the image of this fantastic combat game. If microtransactions as well as Fighters with DLC were not enough to make the game more popular, NetherRealms is also confirming that it will have Seasonal Fatalities which players will only buy with real money.

People on Twitter have been quick to inquire regarding Halloween Fatality. Fans on Twitter were quick to ask about Halloween Fatality after it was discussed in the game’s latest update notes. A fan wrote via WB Games Support via Twitter, and the company replied with a statement that it would only be available through the premium shop.

Naturally, many players felt a bit disappointed by the decision since Fatalities are one of the most enjoyable parts of Mortal Kombat 1 and should already be included in the initial release. The fact that this announcement isn’t all that surprising since the people at NetherRealm were charging Fatalities for a long time, dating back to MKX.

Both MKX as well as MK11 featured different types of Fatalities, which had to be purchased with real-world cash. Whether it was Easy Fatality, which removed the intricate combination and went straight to the action as well or it was the Klassic Fatalities from previous games they all required money. Unfortunately, we’re now seeing this same pattern resurfacing with this year’s Halloween Fatality and, presumably, there will be more Festive Fatalities.

Gamers have already gotten used to paying for costumes and characters in DLC for Mortal Kombat 1, so paying for Fatalities to rear their ugly heads is a disappointment. Unfortunately, NetherRealms has been doing this since MKX as well as Injustice 2, so it appears that the company will not stop this trend in the near future.

There are some who claim that the items can be considered “optional” so people shouldn’t be upset However, that’s not a reason to justify the greed of the company. A majority of players have been taught to pay for costumes and character names, but locking down finishers/Fatalities behind paywalls isn’t right since they’re an integral component of the game.
