Indie game developer Shiny Shoe has decided to eliminate microtransactions in their game Inkbound as the majority of gamers do not like the idea of them.

In an announcement made to Steam, the game’s developer stated that the choice was taken after observing that “industry and player sentiment is trending against the presence of these features.”

Shiny Shoe has said that they have striven to be “as generous and straightforward as possible.” However, the company will decide to end the market on the 27th of October, 2023.

This is not surprising because most of the options available for monetization are like they are being pushed on players and often just consist of cosmetic objects. The creator of the game said “We launched Inkbound with two in-game monetization features to support the ongoing development of the game.” This is a method that many developers prefer to adopt as it grants an extra amount of money and it also highlights how committed fans are.

They went on to explain the decision, saying, “We are obliterating in-game monetization. Content from the existing Leveling Passes will be turned into cosmetic-only optional ‘supporter pack’ DLC.”

If any player is likely to be irritated by this decision, considering that they might have previously spent money on the game, the developers have announced that gamers will be rewarded with “additional bonus rewards” when the game is released in the 1.0 version.

There was a sense that the players were initially skeptical, asking whether there could be “a catch,” while the majority of them were cheering for the move. There’s plenty of heartfelt praise being distributed and encouraging reviews on the initial Steam announcement. A player thanked Shiny Shoe and said this move was “a huge win for the developers.” One other player said that it was a “perfect move”.

As of now, the blog includes more than 50 pages of comments, the majority of them encouraging comments by the fans who are cheering from the stands. The closing line could be a comment from a player who wrote, “This game just went from great to amazing.”
