Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (UMK3), developed and released to arcades by Midway in 1995, is one of the Mortal Kombat series’ signature fighting games. Since Mortal Kombat 3, two new game modes have been included in Mortal Kombat 3: the 2-on-2 mode which emulated Endurance matches but included up to three human players during each round (not seen since Mortal Kombat) and an eight-player Tournament mode. Master difficulty can also be unlocked via Shao Kahn’s Lost Treasures; selectable prizes that offer extra fights or lead to cutscenes are introduced upon the conclusion of either main game or eight player Tournament play.
To keep game play balanced, some characters were given new moves or had existing moves modified; others received extra combos or had existing combos reduced in terms of damage caused. Chain combos may begin by starting off with jump punches (vertical or angled) or vertical jump kicks; creating more opportunities to use combos. Knockout combos no longer send opponents up several levels; only regular uppercuts accomplish this effect.
