What is Cayde doing in Destiny 2 Final Form?
Bungie has released a trailer to promote the Final Shape. The trailer is short but includes an amazing surprise: Ikora talks to Cayde-6. Cayde-6 was the Hunter Vanguard that died in – Destiny 2. How is Cayde returning? How might Cayde figure in The final shape? It’s time for some wild speculation.
Cayde-6, an Exo Hunter, was the Hunter Vanguard in Destiny 2. after forsaken. He became this position by defeating Taniks a Fallen Mercenary that killed Andal Brask, the former Hunter Vanguard.
Cayde, according to whom you asked, was either an exo-hunter who brought some levity into the world of Destiny or a grating, annoying panderer for the cheap seats. He was still killed by Uldren Sov in the first chapter of Forsaken while being under the influence of Riven. This started the revenge plot of the expansion.
Since then, Uldren has returned to life as Crow. Savathun died and came back and Asher Mir, and Sloane, have all been able to survive, if only in a limited capacity. Cayde was still dead in, Destiny 2.
There used to be an old comic saying that said: only Bucky and Uncle Ben stay dead. It seemed for a while that Cayde had also gone. He appeared in Season of the Haunted as a Nightmare, but nothing more. Ikora talks to Cayde in The Final Shape. What is the reason for this?
The Final Shapeat least seems to be taking place within the Traveler. The Season of Deep’s opening film shows the Guardian Reed-7 trying to find the Witness in the kaleidoscopic Portal it made on the Traveler surface. He ends up dying and fused with his ship. The Vanguard will probably find a way through the portal in the following seasons.
What is in the Traveler’s interior? One thing is a vast green landscape — or the spirit of Guardians that have died. Cayde’s mouth and eyes are glowing pale blue in the trailer. It’s possible that Cayde is not the same as he was in his previous life, but a shadow or echo of him.
This would explain why Ghosts can bring Guardians back to life by channeling the original essence of the Guardian inside the Traveler. If Guardians return to the Traveler after they die, it could explain how Ghosts can bring them back to life by channeling their original essence inside.
Maybe Guardians are aware when inside the Traveler but don’t recall their experience when resurrected. This would be in line with Light’s focus on forgetting and amnesia.
Then, maybe that’s how we get into the Traveler – by dying, and not having Ghosts revive us. It would make sense if there were Guardians inside the Traveler. Maybe they are preventing the Witness from finding what it is looking for.
What does the Witness really want? Still, we’re not sure. It’s most likely that it wants to end reality to stop the cycle of death and life, or to get to another “higher” level, like the one we live in. We’re just speculating until we have more information about The final shape.
