It’s bad news for those of you who were hoping to play Hogwarts Legacy on Nintendo Switch soon. Unfortunately, the Switch version of the game has been delayed – again.

Hogwarts Legacy has had two smooth launches so far. First came the new-gen and PC launch in February, followed by the PlayStation 4 and Xbox launches just last week. So far, the game has generated a whopping $1 billion in sales – and I’d imagine that’s a number that’s only going to continue to grow.

In recent days though, PlayStation 4 players noticed that Hogwarts castle itself had been majorly simplified compared to the PS5 version. Exterior bridges were altered and made into interior corridors, meaning the PS4 version did not have to switch between environments. It had people wondering how the Switch version would fare then, and this latest delay clearly indicates that changes are being made.

Unfortunately, the Nintendo Switch version has been delayed to 14 November 2023. It was originally supposed to release on 25 July, so the game has been delayed by four months. Devs said, “Hogwarts Legacy launches on Nintendo Switch on 11/14/23. We know fans are looking forward to playing on Switch, therefore creating the best possible experience is our top priority. Thank you for your patience.”

Based on the phrase “creating the best possible experience”, I’m imagining that we’ll see a simplification of some areas of the game, just like we have in the PS4 and Xbox One versions.

In addition to changes made to the castle, previous-gen players have also noted lengthy wait times when leaving Hogwarts to access exterior locations plus there is a button prompt to open many doors. In the new-gen versions, both of these things are instantaneous.

It’s certainly ambitious to attempt to run this game on the Switch, given its scale. If it’s not in a releasable state though, it’s a good thing that devs have chosen to delay the launch. Between Redfall and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, we’ve had enough buggy games lately.
