The first information about the upcoming Mortal Kombat has leaked. This includes the name of the game, as well as the various editions.

Mortal Kombat 12 is reportedly going to be named Mortal Kombat 1. It looks as if we are in for a battlefield 1-like situation. It’s also the most appropriate name for this big remake, given that there are already two Mortal Kombat games (the 2011 and original) as well as two films called Mortal Kombat. The very first MK could be called OG MK, and the 2011 edition will continue to be referred to as MK9.

The next MK title will likely be a reboot, as it was planned after the end of Aftermath (the story DLC of Mortal Kombat 11), which ended with Fire God Liu Kang resetting the worlds and timelines in response to nonsense about time. Mortal Kombat teased the reboot on its official social media, with a clock showing that it skips over 12 to go straight to 1 and a new name.

As expected, the game will be available on PC, PS5, Xbox Series, and Switch, while PS4 and Xbox One are not included. It’s only natural that the Switch version will be a cloud-based game, given that MK11 was not always the most performant on Switch but it did have some charms and we are now in a new generation. Mortal Kombat 1 is also expected to retail at $70 for current-gen consoles and PCs, but $60 on Switch.

Billbil_kun mentions the physical Kollectors’ ($249.99), but only on PS5 or Xbox. Mortal Kombat 11 launched with the same editions, but the details of any sequel editions are not known yet. After a few years, it’s safe to assume that the DLC will be included in a re-release of the game that is Ultimate-like. We’ve got a few ideas about who we want on the guest list.

A Mortal Kombat 12 announcement (or Mortal Kombat 1 as the game is now called, according to reports) will be made soon. It’s believed that it would come as part of a State of Play yet to be announced. We’ll be bringing you the latest official announcements as they happen.
