Overview:
1989 is the year. Henry is a man who has chosen to leave behind his chaotic life and become a fire watcher in Wyoming’s wilderness. It’s your job, perched high on a mountain, to search for smoke and protect wildlife. Everyone is on edge during a sweltering and dry summer. Delilah, your supervisor, is always available via a small handheld radio. This radio is your only connection to the outside world.
When something unusual pulls you out of the lookout tower and into the forest, you will explore a wild environment and face questions. You’ll make choices that could strengthen or weaken your only relationship. Firewatch is about adults having adult conversations over adult topics. It is a good idea to inform your younger friend if you are going to play with them. It is a stunning wilderness environment that grows as you explore. You create your own story. The choices you make determine the narrative and establish relationships. An edge-of-your-seat mystery. Discoveries and secrets await you on every hill.
Firewatch Pre-Installed
The game had many opportunities. I appreciated them all – creatively, artistically, stylistically and genre-wise. It missed a lot of options, but it did hit some times. I can recommend it enough times. It’s an enjoyable enough game experience to merit a playthrough by most gamers. I believe the early portion of the game is the best. However, the middle part felt rushed, and the ending was disappointing. A few beats that could have made the game feel better and more complete were missed. It may not have “fixed” it, but it’s okay.
It was an enjoyable experience. It wasn’t great, but it was not terrible. Although I hesitated about calling this game “overrated”, I finally decided to call it that. It is the first or maybe the only story or indie game many people have ever played. However, there is no standard from which to rate it other than “BEST GAME SO UNIQUE GOTTA LAY” or “WOW SHORT SUCKED TOO SUCKED.” It’s okay, and that’s okay.
