Starfield, Overwatch 2 & Hideo Kojima headline the Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase 2022
After the Sony’s State of Play, and Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest had inundated gamers with announcements of new games to look forward to, this year’s Xbox/Bethesda Showcase had a lot of work to do if it wanted to make more of an impact than either of those shows.
It did, and many people were impressed. A focus on gameplay made it a newsworthy show, offering first glimpses at what players will be doing when they dive into Redfall and Forza Motorsport.
The broadcast also featured a trailer of Overwatch 2 and Hideo Kojima’s appearance, in which he announced that his studio would collaborate with Xbox Game Studios to create a new title.

Forza Motorsport was also positioned in the early stages of the race order. This was aided by an in-game demonstration highlighting its ray racing capabilities and day/night cycle. Overwatch 2 received a new trailer that revealed a new hero, Junker queen.
The only segment that ddidn’tfeature any gameplay was Metal Gear, and Death Stranding creator forced Hideo KKojima’sappearance towards the end. He announced a new unnamed game developed by Kojima Productions with Xbox Game Studios.
After the showcase, the former took to Twitter to address concerns about what the new collaboration with Xbox might mean for its relationship with Sony and PlayStation. He also assured concerned players that the company still intends to have a “very strong partnership” with them.
Highlights of the showcase included the unveiling of the strategy title Minecraft Heroes, a trailer for Diablo 4, and, as previously speculated, a significant presence by Obsidian Entertainment via glimpses at survival game Grounded and RPG Pentiment.
