PlayStation will “Never” abandon single-player story-driven games
It can feel like all the world is against you, with the sheer number of multiplayer games taking the gaming world by storm.
It doesn’t matter if it’s the latest Call Of Duty or how battle royales such as Fortnite have gone global. Gamers who enjoy a solo adventure feel the pressure to make new friends. Even solo experiences such as Elden Ring have elements like messages and invaders that are more beneficial to those who interact online.
PlayStation has a reputation for offering single-player experiences. The platform is well-known for its single-player experiences, whether it’s playing in God Of War or as an axe-wielding big Daddy in God Of War. However, recent acquisitions like Bungie’s Destiny developer and Haven Studios have raised questions about the future.
Raymond is most well-known for her creation of Assassin’s Creed. However, Haven is reportedly working online on something else. Interview with GIBiz: PlayStation Studios Hermen Hulst stated that they sought to diversify their gaming output.
“It’s really exciting to our central services technology groups. Amazingly, these people are working with Haven, a top-notch outfit. It aligns with our strategy to diversify the games we offer to our fanbase.
Hulst says that, despite PlayStation’s statements that it wants to increase the number of online and live-service games on the platform, Hulst states that he wants each studio to keep their creative visions, no matter where they go.
“We want our team to be creatively independent and fiercely autonomous. This is what I have seen work out to be the most successful games. We want the same culture Raymond has created about building positive and fun relationships between people. We want them to keep doing that. We are here to assist and have built a healthy organization to facilitate that. This acquisition shouldn’t be taken away. In fact, it should bring back many of the benefits. We are taking away distractions so they can maximize their creative independence. We’re here for that.
Although it sounds like it is all just lip service, it is nice to know that I may not be required to interact with people anytime soon.
