Ex-Fable Developer explains Why the New Game Takes So Long.
Are you getting tired of me complaining about this? It’s too common for games to be announced far too early. This happens so often that we get teasers for games far earlier than we need. The result is a CGI trailer or, worse, a logo reveals for many years: you, Metropolis Prime4.
The Fable restart that’s taking place? It’s quite a big deal, and I certainly hope it is. It was announced back in 2020 and is being developed by Playground Games. This team is responsible for the Forza Horizon series. This was already confusing to some people. To change devs is one thing. But to give an open-world RPG over to a team most known for racing games? It’s a complicated one, to say the least. This may also be why it took so long.
According to TheGamer, Juan Fernandez, an ex-developer, recently stated in an interview with Vandal that progress on Fable was slow and that not enough people were working on it.
They are very intelligent and know what they are doing. He said they wanted to try something new and thought open-world racing games would be a good choice. However, they lacked people who could explain how the gameplay works. “In an open-world, the way you control your character and how they perform is quite different to what you would find in a racing game.”
This is…a little concerning. The trailer shown almost two years ago by CGI is all we have. It was quite telling about the game’s development status. However, the same was true for Hogwarts Heritage. But, as everyone will know, they released a huge gameplay footage trailer last Wednesday. A long wait doesn’t always mean a game is doomed, but if devs are “lacking knowledge” about the game, it’s at worst questionable and potentially dangerous.
As you might expect, Fable is currently not available for release. It’s only set to be released before Elder Scrolls VI. This is not a good thing, since it will be years before then, but it’s still something.
