It Takes Two will have a television and film adaptation.
The popular co-op game It Takes Two has announced that they have teamed up with DJ2 Entertainment to adapt the game for television. To critical acclaim, the action-adventure video game was released in 2021. Although the game is similar to a platformer, it was designed for multiplayer split-screen. It features elements and mechanics from many genres.
No studio or network had yet to sign on for the project when this article was published. However, Josh Miller and Pat Casey, the Sonic the Hedgehog movie’s sequel and the Sonic the Hedgehog films, have signed on to the It Takes Two screen adaption.
The game’s story follows Cody (a married couple who plans to divorce) and May (a single mother). After telling her daughter, Cody and May created dolls that look just like her parents. Playing with the dolls, she tries to repair her parents’ relationship and create scenarios to rekindle their love. Cody and May are trapped in the dolls’ bodies by magical means. These two characters embark on an unexpected journey together that eventually brings them closer. Their shared desire to find their daughter helps them grow closer.
The story of rekindling received several awards, including wins and nominations for the Golden Joystick Award and The Game Awards, Game Develops Choice Awards and the 25th Annual D.I.C.E Awards.
It is unknown how the adaptation will look onscreen until a network or studio has taken it on. It could be either an animated or live-action feature, but it could also be a combination of both. We don’t know much beyond the fact that it has its writers.
