One Red Dead Redemption HTML2 player was stunned to discover how Horseshoe overlook got its name. It seems like some of the other fans were also shocked that they…forgot… the connection. Haha. Funny.

Anyway. Horseshoe Overlook can be found in the Heartlands. It is the location for the camp through the second Chapter of Red Dead Redemption2. It is a deterrent to anyone trying to attack the camp from the west, north or south using the forest cover. You might be able to forgive the players who wandered across New Hanover without ever realizing why Horseshoe Overlook was named that. The name is the clue.

It overlooks a horseshoe-shaped bend in river to the west. This detail is obvious when you look at the map. It’s also why it’s so surprising that many players didn’t see it. Horseshoe Overlook’s title serves a narrative function, indicating a time when the gang believes their luck will change following the incident at Blackwater.

Reddit users believe they have discovered the origin of this location. Five fictional states in Red Dead Redemption2 are Ambarino (New Hanover), Lemoyne West Elizabeth, and New Austin. They all draw on the geography of the United States, as well as art from the time period. Ambarino is inspired by Colorado, New Hanover is a mixture of Great Plains states such as Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska, Lemoyne refers to Louisiana, West Elizabeth is California and New Austin is an amalgamation of Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico.

One player suggested that it was the Connecticut River in New England. He cited this paintingby Thomas Cole, which depicts the valley at a high point on the ridge. Another suggestsit could be the Snake River in Wyoming, which has similar forests to the one used in the game. It is certain that we have all learned something today.
