Report: ‘Mario Kart 9’ is on the way.

It’s not surprising that Mario Kart 8 is the most popular Switch game (and the best-selling boxed game at the end of last year). What could be better than portable Mario Kart? Let me tell you, a new one. We’ve been using Deluxe since 2017, which was an improved port of the Wii U version released in 2014. It’s been a while since we last had a new instalment.
According to an industry analyst, this could soon change. Dr SerkanToto, CEO of Kantan Games, a Tokyo-based game industry consultancy, stated to GamesIndustry.biz that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continues to sell well on Nintendo Switch. However, Mario Kart 9 has been in active development and could be teased by Nintendo this year.
He said: “On mobile, Nintendo has been very silent ever since Mario Kart Tour launched in 2019, but I believe 2022 will be the year we see an established IP arrive on smart devices again.”
It’s not just possible to say that a new Mario Kart title will have a twist; it’s also a known fact. As it is, it is well-known that new instalments bring new gimmicks, such as 8‘s introductions of anti-gravity or Wii_s introductions of bikes. It’s impossible to predict what kind of mix-up it will bring, but it’s Nintendo. It will almost certainly be creative.
Nintendo already has a great year planned. Pokemon Legends Arceus arrives later this month. This is the sequel to The Legend of Zelda. There are also other releases this year, like Splatoon 3 and Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Mario Kart9 would be the cherry on top of a very tasty cake. We’ll have to wait to see what happens.
