Release Date for Haunted Chocolatier, Gameplay, Features, All We Know
Eric “ConcernedApe”, Barone, the creator of Stardew Valley, has been working on a new title called Haunted Chocolatier for more than five years. Although it is similar to Stardew Valley, this game focuses on a different type of gameplay.
Barone said Haunted Chocolatier was a darker, more reflective game, but it is still encouraging and uplifting. It’s not coming soon, so don’t be surprised.

Barone spoke with VGKami in an interview where he said that the game would have an NPC relationship system similar to Stardew Valley. He stated:
“Yes, there will exist relationships similar to those in Stardew Valley. The exact system is still being developed. I’m expecting to approach some things differently this year.”
He also explained why he switched to Monogame from XNA for Haunted Chocolatier instead of staying with the former where he did Stardew Valley. He stated:
Both Stardew Valley as well as Haunted Chocolatier were written in C#. Stardew Valley was written in C#. I used the XNA Framework for Stardew Valley. This is a set of tools that can be used to make games, not an engine. Monogame was my choice for Haunted Chocolatier. I used XNA. Monogame is open-source and cross-platform. It also has active developers. XNA is a very old project and has been abandoned for some time.
Barone also spoke about Haunted Chocolatier’s combat system in an interview. He said that it was based on “long-standing traditions of 2D Action RPG’s” and also gave some history about how the game was created.
“Haunted Chocolatier” was created by me just messing about with coding up a very simple “game”. It had only one room, and you could move around, swing a sword, and fight monsters. It was just something I did for fun. It evolved over time and I had many different ideas.

Haunted Chocolatier currently under development. Barone announced his new project in October 2021. He said that he is still working hard on it. While he released some polished footage, he said that a lot of features are still being developed.
His official blog posts indicate that ConcernedApe will approach Haunted Chocolatier in the opposite direction of Stardew Valley in themes, concepts and themes. He stated that his next game would be the “moon,” to Stardew Valley’s sun. However, the core loops aHaunted Chocolatier’sconcepts of Haunted Chocormined and subject to change.
