Final Fantasy VII: PlayStation Plus Version Gets a Free PS5 Upgrade This Week
Final Fantasy VII: Remake has just been released for PC. Square Enix however has some new information regarding its PlayStation version. Anyone who has redeemed the free copy of Final Fantasy VII Remake from PlayStation Plus for PS4 can upgrade to the PS5 version at no cost starting December 22.
Square Enix’s 2020 blockbuster Final Fantasy VII remake was available to PlayStation Plus subscribers in March for the normal month-long window. Although the digital PS4 copy was included in March’s freebies, you could not upgrade it through Sony’s discounted PS5 upgrade program. Square Enix will change that on Wednesday, as we can convert our freebies to the prettier, but less strange pop-in texture version of FF7R. Episode intermission is also available at a discounted price for a short time.
Final Fantasy VII VII Remake’s upgrade situation was confusing for me for a while. But that has less to do Square Enix and more with Sony’s messy, complex back-and-forth about what I can and can’t take to my PS5. It seems that there are certain things I can’t upgrade, such as Spider-Man. The platform holder is often just as confused about my PS4 games as I am about how to use it. You might need to refresh your memory. Sony once listed cross-gen games that would receive free upgrades. Then, it said that you’d have pay $10. After this, Sony had an oops, just kidding moment and explained that will only cost $10 for some PS5 upgrade. The solution seems to be sweeping cross-compatibility. But here we are.
FF7R is the best, and if your PlayStation Plus games were redeemed that month, you’re in for a treat. It was easy to use, and I didn’t notice any texture issues or strange renders of far-off objects. You can also use DualSense to support it and get much faster load times. Aerith, Tifa, and I had the opportunity to see them again.
