Ex-BioWare Animation Director Reveals the Cut Intro to the Studio’s Sonic the Hedgehog Role Playing Game
Do you remember when Mass Effect was created and Dragon Age developer BioWare produced a Sonic the HedgehogRPG? No? It’s likely fair that it was not, given how many people didn’t know about it. Sonic Chronicles was a decent turn-based RPG released for the original Nintendo DS in 2008. Thirteen years later, one animator on the game has released an unpublished 2D intro that the studio created for the game, but which was never included in its final product.
Jonathan Cooper was an animator for Jade Empire and Mass Effect games. He posted a clip that was supposed to be used to introduce Sonic Chronicles. However, Sega cut it. The song you heard in the 2D intro will play over the gameplay footage if you play the game now. While the animation features Blue Blur, the title character, fighting Eggman, it doesn’t feature Sonic Chronicle’s other characters. Yes, that’s true. I am only mentioning it because I will accept any content that includes Shadow. I would love for him to be included. However, the animation was never used, so I am just petty.
In further Tweets, Cooper states that the cinematic was a “passion project” for lead artist Joel MacMillan and animator Nick DiLiberto.

BioWare released Sonic Chronicles at a cliffhanger and planned to make a sequel. However, it never happened. Electronic Arts now own the studio so that it won’t happen again. This is a fascinating look at something that has never been. I remember playing Sonic Chroniclesyears back when I was on one of my Sonickicks. It was a great game, and I had a lot of fun. It used touch screens on the DS to incorporate touch and timing mechanics into turn-based battles.
Sega presented the first footage from Sonic Frontiers in’s latest Sonic news. This was at this year’s Game Awards. The next live-action movie will be released within a few months.
