Monster Rancher and Monster Rancher2 will launch next month, December 9th, as Monster Rancher 1 and 2 DX on Switch, iOS, or PC via Steam. Japan has seen similar rereleases, but this is the first time Monster Rancher games have been released in North America. Koei Tecmo will celebrate the occasion by adding a new tournament to Monster Rancher’s competitive scene.

The tournament’s basic concept is simple. The tournament’s premise is simple. You will upload your Monster Rancher 1 and 2 DX data, which will tell you how your monster ranching skills rank compared to other players around the world. Koei Tecmo’s original tournament was held at Tokyo Game Show 1997. It took only 24 years for other players to see what they could do with a collection of CDs from Spice Girls. Kazumi Fujita, an executive producer, announced the entire thing in a YouTube video. It’s pretty remarkable to see someone so passionate about a series that feels a little behind on a global level. It’s this enthusiasm that I hope leads to another game.

And Monster Rancher could make a comeback for me in 2021. These games were released over 20 years ago. My darkest secret is my proficient knowledge about a franchise that has lived and died with other monster-collecting series. I am serious when I claim that I have used the old PlayStation 1 disc almost every year for nearly 20 years. This is a sentence that I don’t know if I should have proudly written or if it should be removed from the public record. I still like Monster Rancher2, which is a lot like .

If you’re like me, and you are eagerly anticipating the arrival of it, it is worth noting that it might not be exactly as you remembered. The bundled version of the first game and second game will not have CD unlocking functionality. So don’t fret about digging through your family’s old collection of obscure Christmas songs and the Titanic soundtrack (a personal favourite from the ’90s). To unlock new creatures, you won’t need to dig out any of your family’s old albums. The new system is faster and easier than ever, thanks to a CD database to search for song IDs.

You also get the quality of life bits. The games include an enhanced high-speed mode, more freeze slots in the Lab, and random battle modes. Monster rancher two also features new musical arrangements and 27 different creatures. These aren’t significant changes, but they’re enough to make an old PS1-era game easier.

A new…ish Monster Rancher is on the horizon. I have forgone the Pokemon remakes this month and decided to enjoy the collection when it launches in December. Because 2021 has been a hellish year, I am treating myself to the chance of destroying all those competing for the Monster Rancher top spot. Most likely, I will not even make it to the top-whatever leaderboards and be beaten by someone half my age. It’s okay. I’ll still have Tiger, my strangely-named wolf friend.
