Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons Can Attach in Reverse, Sparking Fan Theories

Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Cons Can Attach in Reverse, Sparking Fan Theories

Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 will feature Joy-Cons with a magnetic attachment system—and fans have discovered a surprising quirk: the controllers can be connected in reverse, facing away from the screen.

Unlike the original Switch’s rail system, the Switch 2 uses strong magnets to guide Joy-Cons into place, allowing for easier attachment and reduced wear. However, this also makes it possible to attach the right Joy-Con to the left side and vice versa—though only if the console is flipped around entirely, causing the buttons to face the back.

This odd configuration has sparked playful speculation online, with fans imagining in-game uses. Some believe it could be tied to a puzzle in a *Zelda* game, a Pokémon evolution gimmick, or even unique multiplayer mechanics where one player uses the console in reverse.

Aside from the magnetic system, the new Joy-Cons will include improved analog sticks, larger buttons, and mouse-like input support. Patents also hint at new stick technology aimed at preventing drift issues seen in the original Switch.

The Nintendo Switch 2 launches June 5 for $449.99, with extra Joy-Cons priced at $94.99 per pair.
