Sony has just experienced its most successful November in history, selling 50 million PlayStation 5 systems. This is a remarkable feat. The system may not have many exclusives, but being compatible with PS4 has helped it become a popular current-gen console.
Forbes reported that the PS5 was the best selling November in the history of the company. This is a remarkable feat, considering the PS5 has been plagued by supply shortages as well as being targeted by scalpers.
Although it’s still too early to tell if Sony PlayStation 5 is going to outsell the PlayStation 4 in sales, this shows that the PlayStation 5 has a long lifecycle. Sony will be able to develop exclusive games and could do better in the sales now that there are more PlayStation 5 owners.
Some fans believe that Sony has been hindered by the development of games for PS4 and PS5. This is because customers didn’t need to upgrade immediately. Now that there are more games like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 or Returnal available, it could prove to be a pivotal moment.
Sony’s news is not good, however, because one of its major developers suffered a hack that exposed most of the company’s plans. Insomniac Games suffered a cyber-attack that resulted in many games being leaked, and employee data exposed. It’s great to know when Wolverine will be released and Marvel’s Spider-Man 3 but it is less fun when the privacy of normal people has been compromised.
Sony’s staff can relax knowing their console is loved by gamers, and that they will be able to create more games for it. We hope that we won’t see any other hacks as bad as the one which hit Insomniac. This would only demoralize employees.
