Hitman 2: Silent Assassin was published by Eidos Interactive and developed by IO Interactive for release in 2002 as the second installment in their Hitman franchise, after Hitman: Contracts was made available subsequently in 2004.
Agent 47 has taken refuge at a church in Sicily to find peace. While in residence at this church he works as gardener for Father Vittorio; 47 regards Father Vittorio as both friend and mentor while regularly confessing his sins in confession sessions with him. Although 47 has committed many murders during its missions – Father Vittorio knows its heart lies pure.
One day following his confession, Father Vittorio is abducted and an offer made to 47 demanding $ 500,000 within two days for ransom is left at his door. Retracing his steps as an assassin 47 decides to use Diana, whom many thought had died, as an intermediary in an arrangement for help finding Father Vittorio through their agency; 47 contacts her offering her agency work if it can find Father Vittorio; Diana accepts.
Diana informs 47 that Father Vittorio had been abducted by Giuseppe Giuliano, a Sicilian Mafia capo from Villa Borghese who imprisoned a priest inside one of his cells within Villa Borghese mansion. 47 infiltrates Giuliano but cannot find Father Vittorio; later told through satellite image analysis that this led them directly towards “uniformed guys searching for Russians”.
