FFXIV Variant & Criterion Dungeon: Gameplay Preview (Patch 6.2 Live Letter).
Final Fantasy XIV keeps players engaged with new content. In the last Live letter from the Producer, FFXIV creative Director Naoki Yoshida described new Variant dungeons that offer casual and hardcore players different types of dungeons.
Patch 6.25 will contain the new content. There’s still a little gap between Patch 6_ and when we can dive in. Today’s Live Letter gave us another look at both types of dungeons.
What is The Special Dungeon Finder?
Patch 6.25 will bring the new Special Dungeon Locator to the game. Instead of waiting in line for Criterion and Variant dungeons via the usual Duty Finder, Patch 6.25 allows you to add the new Special Dungeon Locator. Yoshida demonstrated the user interface. It is somewhat similar to the Duty Finder standard but has a little more focus.
The Special Dungeon Finder lists player details, Tombstone rewards, and the character accompanying us on our journey to the first Variant Dungeon: The Sil’dihn subterrane. Nanaimo Ul Namo may temporarily give up her crown to continue adventuring. This would likely place the dungeon under Thanalan’s deserts.
Variant Dungeons, Variant Actions
As described in the previous Live Letter, Variant Dungeons are repeatable dungeon content with a story-centric purpose. One to four players can run these dungeons. There are no restrictions on roles, and you can change jobs anytime.
Variant actions are available to help solo players or abnormal parties. These actions are similar to Bozja’s Lost Actions and give players with certain Jobs new abilities. Variant actions allow Black Mages to heal or tank for a while. These are the available Variant actions.
