Microsoft promises that Call of Duty will be available on PlayStation 4
Many Activision Blizzard fans were worried after acquiring Microsoft’s Activision Blizzard. Are Activision games going to be Xbox exclusives? Although there has been some silence since the original announcement, it appears that the fallout of this acquisition is beginning to ease. Some of the most pressing questions have been answered as part of this.
Microsoft presented its plans for future games in a blog post titled “adapting before regulation”. This blog post focuses on four main areas: app stores, access, payments and other services. It states that Microsoft will allow all developers access to our app store, provided they adhere to reasonable and transparent quality and safety standards.
It states that all apps will be treated equally in the app store, without any unreasonable preferencing of apps or ranking apps from our business partners or other businesses. All apps will be held to the same standards, regardless of whether they are Microsoft or from another company.
The blog also explains that Call of Duty will still be available on other platforms. Sony has been assured that they will make these games available on PlayStation after the current agreement.
These promises may seem empty, but Brad Smith, Microsoft’s general counsel and a former Microsoft employee, has been involved in antitrust cases. He has been engaged in negotiations with the European Commission and has dealt with a wide range of issues. This has given him some insight into the industry and the decisions that are made.
This should all calm your fears. Call of Duty won’t be an exclusive system for the foreseeable future.
