5 Purr-fect Manga For Cat Lovers
The two main categories of pet owners are cat and dog lovers. There are exceptions to this rule, but if you ask anyone whether they are a cat or dog person, chances are that you will get an answer that falls under one of these categories. This article is for feline lovers. These stories feature whiskered friends taking centre stage. Find eight cat manga featuring storylines and artwork almost as adorable as real furballs.
1. A Man & His Cat — Umi Sakurai
If you had to choose one series of books to read over the course of your entire life, then consider all A Man & His Cat volumes. Umi Sakurai’s manga is about a sweet, older gentleman who adopts an unloved, rotund cat. It brings readers unadulterated joy on every page.
Fukumaru, the neglected cat, longs for love after watching his siblings find their owners. Fukumaru is adopted by Mr Fuyuki Kanda, a lonely widower. Man and cat discover each other’s ways and form a bond that transforms their lives. The story of A Man and His Cat is a touching tale about how a man’s love for his cat can help him find comfort in his grief.
This manga is a reminder that everyone deserves love.
2. Haru Hisakawa – Cat Massage Therapy
Cat Massage Therapy has only released one English volume. However, this first entry is filled with enough adorableness to fill anyone’s heart with joy. This manga features a cat running a massage parlour and kitten massage students.
A fluffy white cat runs a massage parlour that helps you relax and forget your troubles. A tense office worker, Nakayama becomes obsessed with cat massages and heat relief. Cats can perform therapy in a variety of different feline-centric ways. Nakayama’s coworkers suddenly want cat massage therapy.
This manga is perfect for cuddling up with your furry friend.
3. Chi’s Sweet Home – Kanata Konami
Sometimes reading books featuring cute cats can be all needed to relax after a hard day. Chi’s Sweet Home has 12 volumes full of furry delights.
The first volume introduces readers to Chi, an American shorthair cat that accidentally separated her family. A kind couple saves the kitten. Their young son attaches to Chi, and they soon realize that the grey furball may need to be kept permanently in their home.
The manga places readers in Chi’s first-person perspective. Readers can watch Chi pee, pounce and play. Chi’s Sweet Home is full of cuteness.
4. Natsuki Takaya – Fruits Basket
Fruits Basket is centred on 12 Chinese Zodiac animals. Despite the manga being centred around many characters, the central character is often an orange cat.
Fruits Basket follows Tohru Honda, an orphan high school student, stumbles across the cursed Sohma families. Each Sohma is cursed to become a Zodiac animal to defeat their curse. To overcome this curse, Tohru and Tohru must develop mutual trust. Under the surface lies humour and absurdity.
Fruits Basket holds a special place inside my heart, even though it is the first manga I read. The fact that the main storyline features a cat drew me to this series. The cat content is excellent. You’ll love Kyo Sohma if you like cats and brooding boys.
5. Junji Ito’s Cat Diary: Yon & Mu — Junji Ito
Junji Ito, horror manga master, presents an autobiographical manga that chronicles his experiences as a cat owner. It combines his trademark art style with comedy to show the “horrors” cats can inflict upon a household.
Junji Ito’s Cat Diary starts straight into laughter when J-Kun invites A-ko, his fiancee, to move into the house he built. A-ko arrives with a surprise. Her two cats, Yon and Mu, have joined her in their new home. J-Kun must adjust to Yon and Mu, his feline visitors. He tries to win their affection, even though the cats want to destroy his new home.
Cat owners can all relate to the cat-owner push-pull relationship defined by heart-melting cuddles or mauled furniture.
