Rare Charizard Pokémon Card Stolen in Violent Robbery

A 38-year-old man in Australia was assaulted and robbed of a rare Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) Charizard card valued at nearly $5,000 USD during a meetup with a potential buyer.

The incident occurred late on March 28 in a parking lot in Warilla, Wollongong. The victim had arranged to sell his 1999 PSA 9 Holographic Charizard card but was attacked and had the collectible stolen instead. The New South Wales Police Force shared details of the crime on social media, including an image of a red 2023 Ford Mustang believed to be connected to the suspect.

The stolen card is part of the original Pokémon TCG Base Set and is highly sought after by collectors. Rare Charizard cards have sold for hundreds of thousands in the past, making them a frequent target for theft.

Police are urging anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers. Incidents like this highlight ongoing security risks for collectors in the high-value trading card market.
