Halo Dev Reveals Why Halo 3 Never Got a Remaster

Halo Infinite associate art director Darren Bacon has shed light on why *Halo 3* never received the remaster treatment like *Halo 2: Anniversary*. According to Bacon, 343 Industries—now rebranded as Halo Studios—was short on resources and personnel at the time when the idea was first considered.

While *Halo 3* remains one of the most beloved entries in the franchise, the studio couldn’t move forward with a remaster due to commitments to *Halo 5: Guardians* post-launch support and early development of *Halo Infinite*. Bacon explained on the VideoGamer Podcast that much of the team’s workforce consisted of temporary contractors, which created a development bottleneck. The typical 18-month contract cycle wasn’t long enough to take on a full remaster, and constant onboarding slowed progress.

Despite not having a full Anniversary edition, *Halo 3* is available in *Halo: The Master Chief Collection* on Xbox and PC. It features smoother performance, high resolution, updated multiplayer progression, and all 24 original maps. The campaign and Forge mode are also fully intact.

There’s currently no official word on a future remaster, but with fewer bottlenecks now, Halo Studios appears more open to the idea. Rumors also suggest that *The Master Chief Collection* could expand to platforms like Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5 as part of Microsoft’s growing multi-platform strategy.
