EA has confirmed that the highly anticipated *Skate* reboot will enter early access in 2025, but longtime fans may be disappointed to hear it won’t include an offline mode. The game will be free-to-play with microtransactions and will require a constant internet connection.

The new *Skate* is being developed by Full Circle and is described as a “living, breathing massively multiplayer skateboarding sandbox.” Players can expect the in-game city of San Vansterdam to evolve over time through live events and updates. Because of this, the developers say an always-online connection is necessary.

Early access will mark the beginning of the game’s live-service experience, with new features and updates planned after launch. While the game won’t offer an offline option, EA is inviting more players to test it out this June as part of its expanding playtest program. Playtesters on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S are already providing feedback, especially on the game’s microtransactions.

Players who buy San Van Bucks—the game’s paid currency—during the playtest will see that money carry over into the early access version. EA insists that these purchases help fund ongoing development and are meant to feel fair for everyone.

More information about early access and future updates is expected in the coming months.
