Meta Lays Off Staff at VR Studios Behind Supernatural and Asgard’s Wrath
Meta has laid off employees at two of its acquired VR studios—Within Unlimited and Sanzaru Games—impacting development on titles like *Supernatural* and *Asgard’s Wrath*. The layoffs are part of broader structural changes within Oculus Studios, according to a Meta spokesperson.
Within Unlimited, the team behind the VR fitness app *Supernatural*, has confirmed the layoffs and warned players that workout content will now release more slowly. However, the game will continue to receive updates, including more intensity options for existing workouts.
This marks Meta’s second round of layoffs in 2025. In February, the company cut around 3,600 jobs, citing performance-based reasons. The latest job cuts also affected some hardware operation teams, and affected employees have been invited to apply for other roles within Meta.
The layoffs come as Meta continues to adjust its VR gaming strategy. The company has acquired several high-profile studios in recent years, including those behind *Beat Saber*, *Resident Evil 4 VR*, and *Batman: Arkham Shadow*. A planned *GTA: San Andreas* VR project has been indefinitely delayed, with Rockstar Games now taking over the studio behind it.
