Oblivion Remastered Struggles to Run Smoothly on Steam Deck

*The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered* is having trouble running well on the Steam Deck, with players reporting performance issues and unstable frame rates. Despite being marked as Steam Deck Verified, the remastered RPG isn’t hitting a consistent 30 FPS out of the box.

Released on April 22 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, *Oblivion Remastered* brings updated visuals and gameplay enhancements powered by Unreal Engine 5. However, the demanding engine seems to push the Steam Deck to its limits.

As noted by PCGamesN, the game defaults to low graphics settings on Steam Deck, with Intel’s XeSS upscaling set to Balanced. Even with these presets, players are still facing stuttering and low frame rates. Adjusting the settings to Performance or Ultra Performance can improve FPS, but it may come at the cost of image clarity and introduce input lag or ghosting.

Players seeking smoother performance might consider streaming the game via Nvidia GeForce Now or Xbox Cloud Gaming, both of which can offer a more stable experience, though a subscription is required.

At 125 GB, *Oblivion Remastered* also demands a lot of storage, and while the Steam Deck has 16 GB of RAM, Bethesda recommends 32 GB for optimal performance on PC.

For now, Steam Deck users may need to wait for future updates—or consider cloud gaming alternatives—if they want a smoother trip back to Cyrodiil.
