Nintendo Quietly Removes VRR Mentions from Switch 2 Websites
Nintendo has started removing references to Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support from several official Switch 2 websites, hinting that the feature may not be available at launch.
Initially highlighted during the April 2 Nintendo Direct, VRR was promoted as part of the new console’s capabilities. The technology allows smoother visuals by syncing the display’s refresh rate with the console’s frame rate, helping eliminate screen tearing. Early regional websites for the Switch 2, including the U.S., Canada, and Japan, all included VRR in their listed features.
However, recent updates have quietly removed VRR mentions from those same pages. Australia’s site has also removed the feature as of April 18. Some regions, like the UK and New Zealand, still list VRR, suggesting Nintendo may still be in the process of updating its global websites.
This change could mean VRR won’t be available at launch—possibly only missing from docked mode. According to a recent Nvidia tech breakdown, VRR might still work in handheld mode.
Another reason for the removal could be that VRR requires compatible displays, and Nintendo may have opted to avoid advertising features not available to all users. Despite this, the websites continue to promote 4K, HDR, and 120fps support—features that also depend on the user’s display.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5 with over 20 games at release, including *Mario Kart World*, *Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition*, *Yakuza 0: Director’s Cut*, and *Bravely Default Flying Fairy HD Remaster*. U.S. pre-orders are still on hold due to ongoing evaluations related to paused U.S. tariffs.
