Nintendo President Doug Bowser Comments on AI in Game Development
Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser has shared the company’s current stance on artificial intelligence (AI) in game development. In a recent interview with CNBC, Bowser acknowledged the growing interest in AI across the industry, but emphasized that Nintendo values human creativity above all.
While the company is exploring how AI tools might assist with repetitive or time-consuming tasks, Bowser made it clear that Nintendo has no plans to replace its developers with AI. “It’s the developers and their artistry that make our games great,” he said.
This cautious approach contrasts with other companies in the gaming world. For example, Activision faced backlash when players suspected AI-generated content was used in *Call of Duty*, including oddly rendered character models. On the other hand, Krafton’s upcoming game *InZOI* is using AI in a more transparent way, allowing users to generate assets locally on their devices using data that avoids copyright concerns.
Nintendo is known for innovation, but for now, it appears the company will continue to rely on its creative teams to bring its unique ideas to life.
