Steam FPS Game Development Paused as Creator Faces 3-Year Prison Sentence

Fans of Fortune’s Run, a Steam FPS currently in early access, will have to wait longer for updates, as the game’s sole developer, Dizzie, has been sentenced to three years in prison. This unexpected setback has left the future of the game uncertain.

Before this news, Fortune’s Run was well-received, earning a “Very Positive” rating from players who praised its nostalgic art style and inventive gameplay.

However, Dizzie announced in a January 14 Steam update that their prison sentence, which begins in February 2025, will delay any further development until their release. While the crime leading to the sentence occurred before they started working on the game, Dizzie acknowledged their violent past.

Fortune’s Run initially had another team member, but they left after a botched surgery, leaving Dizzie as the only developer. As a result, all development will pause during the prison sentence.

The game’s Steam page still aims for a 2026 release, though that timeline is now in doubt. Despite this, indie games like Satisfactory have faced similar delays, so a three-year pause isn’t completely unheard of.

Dizzie reassured fans that they plan to finish the game after serving their time. Until then, players can continue enjoying the current version of the game, while other early access FPS titles on Steam may help fill the gap.
