The Gears of War is a futuristic, third-person shooting game set in the future on Sera. Humans and Locust Horde, an underground race reptilian are fighting a bloody battle. Sergeant Markus Phoenix is the main character in the game. He is an experienced veteran of the Pendulum Wars. He was once a prisoner but is now the Delta Squad leader, fighting on the front line against a powerful enemy. The gameplay involves intense, constant firefights. You can move around to find the best position for facing the enemy.
Marcus is armed with a “Lancer”, a rifle equipped with a chainsaw that can be used for close-quarter combat. This “Crimson Omen”, or alarm, signals that you need to find shelter immediately and replenish your health. Three difficulty levels are available in the storyline campaign: Casual, Hardcore, and Insane. Only after the completion of the game will you be able to access this last difficulty mode. The game may ask you to choose a path for the protagonist at certain points. Marcus and his comrades will then take a different route after you have chosen one.
Gears of War offers a feature for cooperative gameplay. Dominic Santiago can be Marcus’ partner and join at any point in the campaign. Joint campaigns imply mutual aid to one another in the event of severe injury. The game will continue if you can help your partner get up within a set time frame. Up to eight players can participate in multiplayer modes.
