Ubisoft becomes the latest victim of another security flaw
After a turbulent closing this year, characterized by the unfortunate incident of Insomniac games falling victim to massive data leaks, hackers have also attacked Ubisoft. In the words of the devs themselves, an intruder was able to gain access to their systems over the past couple of days.
The company behind games such as Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry first told BleepingComputer that an investigation was being conducted following VX-Underground, the security-focused research group, posted images of what appears to be internal processes. According to Ubisoft, there isn’t much information on the amount of data that was retrieved, “We are aware of an alleged data security incident and are currently investigating. We don’t have more to share at this time”.
The person who was that is responsible for the hack is believed to have hacked into many of Ubisoft’s essential assets and claimed to have gotten access to some of the Ubisoft SharePoint servers as well as Microsoft Teams, Confluence as well as the MongoDB Atlas Panel. It was evident from the photos they released of the data they snatched during the cyber steal.
The incident is the third that Ubisoft has experienced since 2020, the initial one that caused a leak of data about the Watchdogs game, and the perfect ending to the most challenging year for game developers.
