Mickey Mouse horror game forced to change its name because of Nazi negative connotations
We reported yesterday on the upcoming Mickey Mouse horror game; this morning, we’re telling you that the game has been renamed due to Nazi meanings.
The original title was “Infestation 88.” The developers of Nightmare Forge Games have announced that the game will be renamed “Infestation”: Origins. It was started as a small group of devs rushing to earn a quick buck by leveraging Steamboat Willie to become public domain. It has now become an entire story centered around the different meanings of Nazi games in its trailer.
Suppose the game’s developers have to be concerned. In that case, it’s an honest oversight, with the following statement: “Unfortunately, when announcing the game, we weren’t aware of the other implications that come to the number 88. The game takes place in the 80s with the year 1988 chosen because of its design symmetry of our game’s art.”
If you do not understand the significance of “88,” The Anti-Defamation League can clear that up by explaining that”88″ is frequently used to refer to a “white supremacist number code” that is used to mean “Heil Hitler” without it being apparent.
Additionally, The number 14, which is also used within this Disney-inspired trailer, can also symbolize a neo-Nazi stance and support, and some online sleuths go further to say that the Nightmare Forge team’s Discord mods are “out/proud neo-Nazis”. However, there is no proof to suggest the claim.
