Ubisoft has accused the Black Friday deal pop-ups of an error in the software that was reportedly fixed.

A few weeks ago, the developer of Assassin’s Creed developer was criticized after a number of players complained that their game was interrupted by ads that appeared on their screen whenever they looked at the map of the game. They were apparently selling discounts on the Assassin’s Creed: Mirage which is the most recent installment in the series.

The ads weren’t tiny either, they were huge banners that filled all of screen space and obscured the user’s game in a way, which caused anger and frustration at the thought that Ubisoft was able to employ such devious methods of marketing.

Thankfully, the issue has been resolved and the issue has been resolved, with Ubisoft apologising for the disruption and saying that the advertisements appeared after a technological issue that was corrected.

The complete statement, sent to Eurogamer is: “We have been made aware that some players encountered pop-up ads while playing certain Assassin’s Creed titles yesterday … This was the result of a technical error that we addressed as soon as we learned of the issue.”

What you decide to believe is a genuine error or not, is your personal choice, but at the very least, it’s been fixed and people are able to play the game as they were intended.

It’s a bit odd that Ubisoft isn’t alone which has come under fire for their advertisements in games this year, because Warner Bros Games was in the same situation a couple of months back with Mortal Kombat 11.

Fans who wanted to play the fight game that they had paid premium prices for were shocked to see advertisements on the menus of the game that promote Hogwarts Legacy, which is the Harry Potter spin-off game that could not be more different than the blood and gore that is Mortal Kombat.

Although Ubisoft may have gained its lessons it is a worrying sign that the gaming industry is becoming more bold in the manner to promote their newest release and can be a bad example for the games that are to come.
