Destiny 2’s Worst Hunter Ability Is Finally Getting Some Love
Bungie’s newest The Week of the Destiny blog blog post is the final one prior to Season of the Wish begins on November 28. As well as revealing the latest season-specific artefact The post also outlines several changes in abilities that will be introduced in the upcoming season. The first batch will be a rager to Titans and deliver justice to Hunters who’ve had a nagging fear of the one-shot ability at the Crucible.
There was a time when Titans were able to sprint through the Crucible and activate the Shoulder Charge feature (Seismic Strike, Hammer Strike and Shield Bash) that instantly killed anyone who was in the way. The closest alternative Hunters were offered was a gunslinger’s throwing knife which required you to strike your enemies with the skull for the ultimate killing.
In December of 2021, upgrade 3.4.0 rightfully nerfed the Shoulder Charge to ensure that it wouldn’t shoot anyone within the Crucible. In the Season of the Wish update is expected to go to the next level as part of “an ongoing effort to make sure that any one-shot ability in the game comes with significant risk or cost.”
In the past players were able to get around the 3.4.0 limitation by sliding, and firing their weapons to start an shoulder charge or slide melee. This has been fixed with Season of the Wish so that shooting when sliding will prevent the use of these capabilities. This change will directly affect Tempest Strike (the Arcstrider Hunter’s moving melee which gives an electrified uppercut which travels forwards, causing damage and jolting the enemies) This particular and under-used Hunter capability is getting a major boost.
for a long period, the meta of Arcstrider has included combining Liar’s Handshake Exotic gauntlets along with Lethal current and flow State features. In Lethal Current, avoiding can increase the range of melee attacks and it Jolts those who are targeted, and creates an aftershock and Jolted targets become blinded. The Liar’s handshake allows attack sequences that follow after the fully charged melee will cause additional damage and also can heal you.
When you use Flow State, defeating a Jolted opponent increases the damage you take and recharges Dodge and enhancing damage resistance as well as reducing the time to reload. That’s right, continually doingdging and punching can be an unbalanced combat system which can destroy a lot of advertisements. So why would an Arcstrider prefer anything else?
Due to this combination being so powerful, people don’t even is thinking about Tempest Strike. This could change during the Season of the Wish with the following modifications:
- Base damage increased between 110 and 125.
- Modified tracking behaviour to be more reliable over longer distances.
- Increased stability when travelling over difficult terrain.
Tempest Strike got a 30% increase in damage against PVE enemies at the end of the 19th season which was a much-needed. However, this ability is virtually non-existent for PVP for some time. Does this boost have the potential to make a difference? Most likely not However, at most, the Hunter’s combat options are similar to the other options for class.
