Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 removed the ‘pay-to win’ skin after protests by fans
I’m not sure what you think, however, I believe that one of the main requirements of every FPS game is to discern your adversaries. But, this didn’t happen in the case of the of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare IIIskin that allowed gamers to seamlessly blend to their surroundings… while also having to pay cash during the process.
If you’ve ever wondered what a villainous Groot could look like, then check out the Gaia skin that was released to Modern Warfare III injust few months back. The skin gives players the appearance of a knotted tree it was first introduced as a skin in Modern Warfare II for the player Nila “Nova” Brown.
Though the concept was appealing but it didn’t end with a positive result in game play when players complained that the game made their foes almost impossible to spot. This was so bad that it was reported that the Gaia skin was tweaked in October. But, it appears that it was not sufficiently nerfed since it’s the exact equivalent to playing while wearing the invisibility cover-up.
This means that Sledgehammer Games will be removing the Gaia skin as well as the Blackcell Operator variant in order to overhaul it completely. “Adjustments to Gaia and Gaia Blackcell Operator Skins are in the pipeline for Modern Warfare III,” the developer wrote on Reddit. Sledgehammer Games on Reddit. “In a future game update, we’ll disable this item until said changes can be released to all players.”
It was available through the battle pass for season 6 that eventually made it the first ‘pay to win cosmetic. When buying the battle pass players must level up to get access to the skin or buy an upgrade, which would enable the player to get it quicker. This is why the fact that a skin purchased for money is damaged hasn’t been well received by those who are part of the Call of Duty community.
