Dungeon Master, is a role-playing game in real-time with a first-person pseudo-3D perspective. FTL Games developed and released the game for Atari ST in 1987. Amiga (DOS), PC (DOS), and Amiga ports were then made in 1988, 1992. Dungeon Master, which was released in 1987 and included real-time elements of combat (similar to Active Time Battle), broke away from the turn-based system that had been most popular.
The use of sound effects, which indicate the presence of a monster nearby, as well as (primitive), dynamic lighting were also factors that contributed to the immersiveness. In place of the abstract Dungeons and Dragons-style experience points and levels, a system was implemented where characters could improve their skills directly by using them.
Dungeon Master wasn’t the first to use these features. Dungeons Of Daggorath, a game for TRS-80 Colour Computer that was released in 1982, introduced these features. The dungeon master was responsible, however, for popularising the elements. Dungeon Master also allowed players to manipulate the objects and environment directly by using the mouse.
